I unloose, …
There is great power in ‘yes’ and ‘no’, there is only power in saying ‘yes’ or ‘no’, these restraints are voluntary. What is kept in place will now be granted freedom.
Language disappears at the moment of prayer. As you take off your mask I wake up and never see your face. I wish I wasn’t this body, not this specific one.
There are ties that bind us, fueled by a drive to overcome the limitations of ourselves, we probe touch seek to advance. What we do best is give in.

… dissolve, …
“Through the activity of organs in a flow of coalescence and renewal, like the ebb and flow of waves surging into one another, the self is dispossessed, and so completely that most creatures in a state of nakedness, for nakedness is symbolic of this dispossession and heralds it, will hide; particularly if the erotic act follows, consummating it.” (Georges Bataille, Erotism Death & Sensuality, 1957, 17)

… destroy
“Their waters were mingled together, and no field was formed, no marsh was to be seen; when of the gods none had been called into being, and none bore a name, and no destinies were ordained” (L.W. King, The Seven Tablets of Creation, 19077)
You are different as I am different now. Not much left of you, not much left of me. Is this desire?

In ‘I unloose, dissolve, destroy’, Koes Staassen (1985) and Matthijs Walhout (1991) present new work in which physical and spiritual desires are revealed and concealed. Koes will show new collage works that expand on the playful processes that are the base for his drawings. Matthijs will show a ritual installation of found objects and text.

Broedplaats Lely, Schipluidenlaan 12, Amsterdam West.
